Dori Velasquez-Peach, LCP, a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist, received her Masters of Arts in psychology with an emphasis on clinical skills from Washburn University. She has practiced for more than 12 years providing therapy services in both community-based and outpatient settings. Dori was in private practice with Responsive Centers before co-founding New Leaf Therapy Group in 2015.
Dori believes in early intervention and specializes in working with preschool-age children. She has provided consultation and therapeutic interventions in a variety of settings including Head Start classrooms, schools, daycares, in home and a community-based therapeutic preschool. She utilizes a variety of brain- and play-based therapy techniques and activities to assess, understand and meet the child at their social, emotional and developmental level. Dori empathizes and actively works with parents on supportive, positive parenting techniques and behavior modification to address their child’s treatment needs.
Dori specializes in working with elementary to adolescent children with a variety of behavioral and emotional needs including anxiety disorders, worry and fears, behavioral and ADHD disorders, difficulty paying attention and following directions, poor impulse control, anger, aggression, mood disorders, depression, suicidal ideation and difficulty with friendships and in social situations. Dori works with children coping with a variety of stressors and loss and grief issues. Dori understands the importance of treatment of children with special needs and families coping with co-occurring developmental delays, learning disorders and autism spectrum disorders.
Dori integrates play- and activity-based Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), psychotherapy and solution-focused therapies with supportive parenting techniques to assess and address improving communication of emotional needs, increase positive behaviors and identifying and practice effective stress management and coping skills. Dori is open to collaborating with other providers and school professionals to meet the overall needs of her clients. She provides individual and family therapy for children and adults to improve their coping skills, stress management, anger and impulse control skills, communication and relationship skills.
